Expanding the Frontier of Leadership Learning

Engineer Superintendent, Oil and Gas, Lagos, Nigeria / London, UK

How an engineer built leadership capability and career options despite a toxic workplace.

I was close to burning out and seriously questioning my future at work. Completing Michelle’s program helped me gain clarity, think more strategically and see realistic options I hadn’t considered before.

The Challenge

This client was stuck in a toxic work culture, with no role models to help him expand professionally. There was no leadership learning. He’s ambitious and wanted to make himself more marketable.

Unfortunately, his organisation wasn’t providing him with the leadership development opportunities he needed.

At best, he felt overwhelmed and frustrated. At worst, he felt lost and almost at the point of defeat. He knew something had to change for the sake of his career and long-term sustainability at work.

The Solution

A targeted leadership development program focused on capability, influence, and strategic decision-making, delivered in a group setting.

The Results

He rebuilt his confidence and developed a more sustainable way of operating, despite the toxic work environment. He tailored his leadership approach and developed the skills necessary to adapt quickly within his dynamic (and toxic) work environment.

This included becoming more mindful and strategic in his interactions with his leader and colleagues. It resulted in a positive shift in the quality of his relationships and his experience of work.

In the end, when we caught up with him after the program had ended, we learned he’d been able to leave the organisation on his own terms. And not only that, it was for a better role in an organisation with more growth opportunities.
